What Is a Compounding Chemist?
A compounding chemist is a pharmacy that prepares a medicine from its individual ingredients, made to your doctor’s prescription. Compounding is used when a commercially made product is unavailable, comes in the wrong strength, or contains an ingredient you cannot have.
Your family GP decides whether a compounded medicine is suitable for you, and the pharmacist prepares it to that prescription. Here is what the pharmacy can prepare for you, and the everyday services it offers:
What Can Be Compounded
- Flavoured liquids for children who refuse tablets
- Capsules or liquids for people who find tablets hard to swallow
- Strengths or doses not sold commercially
- Medicines free from lactose, gluten, dyes or preservatives
- Creams, gels and ointments for the skin
Everyday Pharmacy Services
- PBS prescriptions and eScripts
- Private prescriptions
- Scripts on file with repeat reminders
- Australia-wide delivery via Aramex
- Medicines advice from a pharmacist
Because every compounded medicine is prepared to an individual prescription, it can take a little longer than a standard script. Ask the pharmacy when your order will be ready, or have it couriered to you. Patients on long-term medicines, such as those with a chronic disease management plan, often keep their scripts on file so repeats are ready when they need them. For full details of what the pharmacy offers, visit the Paradise Compounding Pharmacy website or call them on 07 5527 9428.

Do I Need a Prescription for a Compounded Medicine?
Most compounded medicines need a prescription from a doctor. If you think a compounded version of a medicine may suit you better, talk to your GP first. They can assess whether it is appropriate and, if it is, write the prescription the pharmacy needs. New to the clinic? Our patient information page explains what to bring to your first appointment.
What to Bring
Bring your paper prescription or eScript token, your Medicare card, and any concession or DVA card if you have one. If you already have scripts on file with the pharmacy, just let the team know your name and date of birth.
How It Works With Your GP Appointment
See your doctor at My Doctors Clinic, then walk a few steps to the pharmacy with your prescription. No second trip across the Gold Coast and no waiting for a courier if you need your medicine today. If your GP also orders blood tests, our onsite pathology collection centre is in the same building too. Travelling soon? If our travel clinic prescribes medicines for your trip, you can pick them up before you leave. And because we are a medical centre open 7 days, you can see a GP and fill your script on the weekend as well.
You are always free to fill your prescription at any pharmacy you choose. The on-site pharmacy is simply there for convenience.
