Childhood Immunisations In Surfers Paradise

Your Childhood Immunisation Clinic In Surfers Paradise

Bring your baby, toddler or school age child to My Doctors Clinic Surfers Paradise for their routine childhood immunisations. Our GPs give every vaccine on the National Immunisation Program (NIP), and the vaccines themselves are free for eligible children. As an immunisation clinic on the Gold Coast, we look after families from Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Main Beach, Southport and Bundall.

We are open 7 days, with Saturday hours until 9pm, so child immunisations can fit around work, childcare and school rather than the other way around. Walk in, or book an appointment to keep your wait short.

Every dose we give is reported to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), so your child’s record stays current for childcare enrolment, school and Family Tax Benefit checks.

Immunisations From Baby To Teen, Explained By Stage

The childhood immunisation schedule in Queensland follows the NIP. Newborn immunisations start with hepatitis B in hospital, and from there your child’s vaccines are grouped into a handful of visits. Here is what each stage protects against.

Schedules are updated from time to time, so our GPs check your child’s AIR record against the current schedule at every visit. Some children are eligible for extra free vaccines, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, babies born prematurely and children with certain medical conditions. Ask us about an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health check at the same visit.

Extra Free Vaccines Queensland Families Can Access

On top of the standard schedule, Queensland funds extra protection against two infections that hit babies hardest, and the flu vaccine is free for young children every year. Ask about these at your child’s next visit.

Protecting Your Baby Before They Are Born

Some of the most important protection for a newborn comes from vaccines given in pregnancy. Antibodies cross the placenta and protect your baby in the first months of life, before they are old enough for their own vaccines.

We cover all three as part of our pregnancy and antenatal care, so your baby’s protection is already under way before their first clinic visit.

Getting Your Child Up To Date In Three Steps

Missed doses are common after illness, a move or time overseas. Catch-up vaccines on the NIP are free for children and young people under 20, and it is never too late to start.

Your Questions About Kids' Vaccinations

Straight answers to the questions Surfers Paradise parents ask our GPs before an immunisation visit.

Vaccines on the National Immunisation Program are free for eligible children. Eligible consultations are bulk billed for Medicare and DVA card holders. A one-off $45 new patient administration fee applies per person, including children, at the first visit. Vaccines that are not on the NIP have a private cost, which reception can confirm before the appointment.

Walk-ins are always welcome, so you can come in without an appointment. If you would like a shorter wait, book online or call 07 5592 2299.

Yes. We are open Saturday from 8am to 9pm and Sunday from 8am to 5pm, as well as public holidays from 8am to 5pm. Weekday hours are 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Yes, for eligible groups. Queensland funds MenB for babies from 6 weeks to under 12 months, as a catch-up for children from 12 months to under 2 years, and for adolescents aged 15 to under 20. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children under 2 and children with certain medical conditions are also funded under the NIP.

Fever is common after MenB in children under 2, so paracetamol is recommended with each MenB dose for this age group, with the first dose given shortly before or straight after the vaccine. Your GP will explain the right dose for your child's weight. Paracetamol is not routinely recommended before other childhood vaccines.

Usually not. Most babies whose mother had the RSV vaccine at least two weeks before birth are protected. If the vaccine was given closer to birth, or your baby has a condition that raises their risk, your GP can check whether the free RSV antibody immunisation is recommended.

Several vaccines can safely be given at the same visit, and the scheduled visits are designed that way. Giving them together does not overload the immune system, and it means your child is protected sooner with fewer appointments.

Bring them in. Catch-up doses of NIP vaccines, including HPV, whooping cough and meningococcal ACWY, are free for young people under 20, and we can give them at the clinic and report them to the AIR.

Yes, from 6 months of age. The flu vaccine is free under the NIP for children aged 6 months to under 5 years. Children under 9 who are having a flu vaccine for the first time need two doses at least four weeks apart.

Bring your child's Medicare card, their blue book (Personal Health Record) and any vaccination records from overseas. A favourite toy, a feed or a dummy can help settle younger children afterwards.
