Women's Health Clinic in Surfers Paradise
Care For Women At Every Stage Of Life
Women’s health covers far more than one appointment a year. From your first cervical screening test through contraception, pregnancy, fertility questions, heavy or painful periods and into menopause, the same GP can look after you at every stage.
At My Doctors Clinic Surfers Paradise, one of the few Gold Coast medical centres open every day of the year, we have female GPs available, so you can ask for a woman doctor when you book. Many women tell us that makes a real difference when the appointment involves an examination or a conversation they have been putting off.
Most women’s health consultations are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders, and our onsite pathology means blood tests and screening samples can often be taken the same day. You never need a referral to see a GP, so you can walk in 7 days a week or book online with a female doctor.

The Cervical Screening Test Explained
If you remember having Pap smears, this is the test that replaced them in Australia in 2017. It looks for human papillomavirus rather than abnormal cells, which finds risk earlier and means most women only need it every five years instead of every two.
Since 2022, eligible women have been able to choose self-collection, using a simple swab in privacy at the clinic. It is just as accurate for detecting HPV, and many women who have avoided screening find it much easier.
What To Expect
- Takes about 5 minutes during a normal appointment
- Checks for HPV, the virus that causes almost all cervical cancer
- Recommended every 5 years from age 25 to 74
- Self-collection is available if you would prefer to take the sample yourself
- A female GP can do the test if you ask when booking

Women's Health FAQs
Answers to what women ask our GPs most often in Surfers Paradise.
How often do I need a cervical screening test?
Most women aged 25 to 74 need one every 5 years, as long as results are normal. Your GP will tell you if you need it more often, for example after an abnormal result or if you have a weakened immune system. You can do the test at our Surfers Paradise clinic during a standard appointment.
Can I choose to collect the cervical screening sample myself?
Yes. Self-collection has been available to all eligible women since 2022. You use a simple swab in privacy at the clinic and it is just as accurate for detecting HPV as a sample taken by your doctor. Ask your GP if you would prefer this option.
Are female GPs available at your clinic?
Yes. We have female doctors consulting and you can request one when you book. If your preferred GP is not available on the day you want, reception can tell you when she is next in.
Is women's health care bulk billed?
Most consultations are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders, including cervical screening tests. Some procedures, and pathology fees, may have a cost. Ask reception when you book, and see our FAQ page for more on billing.
Can my GP help with menopause symptoms?
Yes. Your GP can talk through hot flushes, sleep problems, mood changes, vaginal dryness and bone health, and explain the options including menopausal hormone therapy and non-hormonal approaches. Perimenopause often starts in your 40s, so it is worth raising early.
Can I discuss contraception including IUDs and implants?
Yes. Your GP can go through all the options, prescribe what suits you, and discuss implants and IUDs including how and where they are inserted. If a procedure is not done on site, your doctor will refer you to a clinician who provides it.
What can I do about heavy or painful periods?
Start with a GP appointment. Blood tests can check for iron deficiency and thyroid problems, and your doctor can look for causes such as fibroids, endometriosis or PCOS, then treat it or refer you to a gynaecologist.
Do I need a referral to see a GP about women's health?
No. You never need a referral to see a GP. Walk in any day of the week or book online, and mention it is a women's health appointment so enough time is set aside.
